12 Dirt-Cheap Cruises for 2024 Starting at $169

When you book your cruise, note in your reservation (or remind your travel agent to note) that you're celebrating a special event in your life. Whether you are a loyal customer or a first-timer that the cruise line hopes will become a repeat cruiser, you might be rewarded with an upgrade. Cruise lines often offer multiple tiers within their loyalty programs, with increasing benefits as you move up the ranks. By reaching higher tiers, you can enjoy even greater discounts and privileges, making your future cruises more affordable. Package deals can also provide added convenience and peace of mind. Instead of organizing each aspect of your trip individually, everything is taken care of in one booking.

How can I maximize the value of my cruise vacation?

These days they are nothing short of floating resorts, with Broadway shows, amusement parks, and fine dining added in for good measure. No, not every trip on an older ship will be less expensive compared to a cruise on a newer ship. But as a rule of thumb, the older a ship is, the less expensive you can expect its cruises to be. East Coast to Europe (or vice versa) with stops in the Canary Islands or Azores along the way.

Mention your special occasion

Cruise prices can vary significantly depending on the time of year, day of the week, and even the time of day. By being flexible with your travel dates, you can take advantage of lower rates and special promotions. If you’re the sort of person who likes to spend lots of time in the cabin in your own space, then a balcony could be well worth the money. But if you’re the type to be out and about during your cruise, then you’ll likely only use the cabin to sleep and to change clothes. In that case, you can sail the exact same trip as someone in a balcony cabin, but for hundreds less.

Caribbean, from Port Canaveral (Orlando)

From there, you’ll head to MSC’s private island Ocean Cay for a stay. That said, don’t let that keep you from searching across all lines. There are some routes and times where you can find cheaper cruises from other lines. Among the major cruise lines, we find that Carnival and MSC tend to be less expensive on average than what you’ll find elsewhere.

If there is a cancellation or price change, we like knowing that we can contact the cruise line directly. When it comes to affordability, it’s hard to beat what you get with a cruise. Instead of booking transportation and hotels, then having to shell out more for entertainment, restaurants, and activities on a traditional trip, it’s all included in one price. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices.

When searching for the cheapest cruise deals, it’s worth considering the expertise and knowledge of a travel agent. Travel agents specialize in planning and booking vacations, including cruises, and can offer valuable insights and access to exclusive deals. So, to help in your search for cruise deals, we've come up with three categories for penny pinchers -- budget cruise lines, budget itineraries and budget seasons. You don't necessarily need to sail with a dedicated budget cruise line to find rock-bottom rates, but you need to know which itineraries and cruising seasons traditionally have the lowest prices.

These costs were compared solely on the cruise fare, which does include complimentary dining venues as well as most of the onboard activities and entertainment. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) appeals to a wide range of cruisers sailing worldwide. Their cheapest cruise sails out of Malaga, Spain, on a 2 day cruise for $195, while the cheapest Caribbean cruise is a 3 day tour of the Bahamas at $330. MSC Cruises also has competitive prices, offering a $109, three night Bahamas cruise on MSC Divina. MSC is a European cruise line that has been making major inroads in the American market with its aggressive pricing and growing fleet of ships.

Taxi – The normal start rate for a taxi in Sofia is 2 BGN, and then an additional 1-2 BGN per kilometer. While affordable, they can add up fast if you use them often so stick to public transportation if you can. However, you can purchase a day pass for 4 BGN or a three-day pass for 10 BGN with unlimited rides on all public transportation. Use the official website (sofiatraffic.bg) to look up schedules and routes. Grocery shopping is incredibly affordable here, costing around BGN per week for basic staples like rice, pasta, seasonal produce, and some meat.

Their lowest cruise fare comes in at $168 for a 3 day Bahamas getaway on Celebrity Millennium, a reasonably low price. Looking for the overall lowest cruise fares yielded some amazingly cheap prices that hotels can’t even compete with. We spent some time looking at cruise lines, along with a wide variety of itineraries, in search of the cheapest prices out there. As with some other cheap cruises on our list, this trip sails an older ship.

While we’ve included the cruises with the absolute cheapest prices we could find, it’s understandable if these trips aren’t exactly the ones you’re looking for. Maybe you want a longer cruise, or to sail from a different port. We found a price as low as $204 per person, but if you can’t sail then, there are several more options for just a few bucks more. Even as slightly higher prices, that’s a great deal for a chance to get out of town for a few days and spend some time at sea. The cruise line’s cheapest Caribbean cruise starts at $541 for a 5 day Western Caribbean tour. With this cruise aboard Caribbean Princess, you’ll have six days to unwind as you head from Fort Lauderdale to Princess Cays, Grand Turk, and Nassau.

It's also important to note that lines have by no means neglected these older ships; most have gone under the knife for multimillion-dollar refurbs. There's no guarantee you'll get a residential discount, but it can't hurt to mention your home city and state during the booking process, just in case. Look for options for requesting these deals about halfway through the booking process when you use the cruise lines’ websites.

Planning ahead is a great way to score big savings, as Royal Caribbean often runs early saver deals to guests booking well in advance. It’s also pretty safe to assume prices usually go up as availability goes down the closer you get to your sail date, so booking ahead is a surefire way to lock in a great rate. That said, booking a cruise at the last minute can also yield some unexpected savings — but only if the itinerary you’re interested in hasn’t sold out yet. To wrap up, your best bet for the cheapest cruise lines is to find deals, exclusive offers, and affordable sailings from bigger cruise lines.

Many times you can call and get some help with the lower fare in the form of a refund or onboard credit for the difference. It doesn’t always work, but for the little time it takes, it is definitely worth the effort. If you are flexible… and I mean really flexible… with how you sail, then look at repositioning cruises. Sure, it’s not necessarily a way to find a cruise for less money, but it is less money that comes out of your pocket for the vacation. So spend a dollar, get a point that can be put toward cash back, your statement, gift cards, travel, and more.

Package deals often bundle various components of your vacation, such as accommodation, meals, flights, and land-based activities, into a single discounted price. While inside cabins might not offer the same scenic experience as cabins with a view, they can still provide a comfortable and affordable option for those seeking the cheapest cruise deals. Evaluate your priorities and budget, and consider the advantages of an inside cabin when booking your cruise.

By working with a travel agent, you can save time and effort in researching and comparing various cruise options. They can streamline the process by presenting you with the best choices that fit your desired itinerary, cabin preferences, and budget. One of the significant advantages of loyalty programs is the ability to receive early access to promotions and discounted rates. Cruise lines often provide their loyal members with exclusive offers before they are made available to the general public. Some cruise lines may offer all-inclusive packages that include gratuities, beverages, and specialty dining, while others may charge extra for these amenities.

Navigator Of The Seas 3 Night Ensenada Cruise from Los Angeles, California

3 day cruise from long beach to ensenada

During our day in port, we chose to explore the town on our own. We’ve visited Ensenada and the wine country many times, so we enjoyed visiting a local museum, lunch at Muelle 3 and strolling through town. There is no shortage of meaningful things to do on a getaway cruise to Ensenada, Mexico. Make sure to include the cruise line, itinerary and cruise length. If you have any questions or would like to connect, feel free to drop me a message at the contact page here or on social media at the links below. There are a few bars available, The lime and Coconut bar on the adult swimming deck closed early but the Bamboo Room tiki bar was open late as were the other bars.

Ultimate Guide to 3-Day Carnival Imagination Cruise to Ensenada

Active travelers will love the region too, their greatest challenge being how to choose among the many adventures—zip lining and horseback riding are two highlights—that await in Ensenada and its outskirts. This is a fun itinerary for a weekend getaway, but after experiencing a 3-day cruise, we all agreed that we’d love to try a longer cruise. Between the teen club for my son and all the fun things to do onboard, there just wasn’t enough time to experience it all plus enjoy some downtime. You have a couple choices with your luggage on the last night of the journey. You can place it outside your cabin door and they will pick it up and bring it ashore for you or you can deal with it yourself. This is good and bad because getting off the ship can be a crowded and shuffling affair and having to drag your bags along with you can be a hassle.

Cruise Itinerary

Don't expect excellent snorkeling activities like those in most of the Caribbean ports. If you didn't book any excursions through Carnival and plan to explore Ensenada on your own, there are buses every 10 minutes that will take you close to downtown. At the bus stop, there are excursions you can book for a much cheaper price than booking it through Carnival. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices.

New to cruising

Boarding the tenders was straightforward, there were a few steps to get down to the boat from the ship but they had rails to hang onto. The dock on the island was a different story, after exiting the tender, there are no rails until you get to the part of the dock that has a ramp up. I would suggest a sighted guide or asking a crew member for assistance. Once you exit the dock, all the shops, restaurants and other attractions are close by and just to the right as you exit the ramp. There are quite a few souvenir shops but be aware that many of these are older shops and very packed with goodies and trinkets to buy.

The Riptide waterslide is a lot of fun, Of course my guide could not go on the slide so I had a family member hold her and meet me at the bottom of the slide. They require a mat, and the person monitoring the slide was very good about telling me where to put the mat and when to go down the slide. If it were just my husband and I cruising together, we would've opted to stay onboard and enjoy the empty ship since we've already been to Ensenada before. However, since it was our cousin's first time, we ventured out with him!

You'll find great food all over the place, from the casual fare of Horatio's to the artful eats of the Bacchus and Ariadne dining rooms... Not to mention the world-class cuts at Nick & Nora's Steakhouse. Today, a tour of Riviera del Pacífico will give you a glimpse into this famed piece of Ensenada's history. The shore excursion will take you through the grand ballroom where the rich and famous danced the night away. You'll also have a chance to look through the Museo de Historia de Ensenada (Ensenada Museum of History), stroll through the gardens, catch displays in the gallery, and visit its elegant salon.

Expert guidance. No booking fees.

If you are a gambler, the Casino will open as soon as the ship gets far enough offshore. Usually after dinner service is a good bet for starting to get your gamble on. Shops near Ensenada's port will sell traditional souvenirs like postcards and key chains. Hi, I’m Alexa —  a professional blogger and travel photographer.

You're even going to find an Italian market, Il Mercato, featuring faves like sauced-up meatballs, sandwiches with inspiration from Italy and beyond, plus sausages and salads. And since we're always authentic… most of the time, you can enjoy the fusion-y goodness of Mexican-Italian Tomodoro™ plus Guy's Burger Joint, which now features classics and burgers with Italian twists. The ship will depart Ensenada around dinnertime, and it is always fun to watch the captain navigate the area out to open sea while you enjoy a leisurely dinner.

Enjoy Magical Marine Ecotourism

I appreciated the choice of premium food amenities and fun themed bars onboard. She tolerates getting splashed by kids having a good time, but it can get exhausting having to dry the dog off after a trip to the pool and of course there is the wet dog smell in the room after that. I was able to park her by a lounge chair close to the pool stairs and easily navigate my way into the pool. Also offered is a Tequila tasting tour where they take you to a distillery which offers tours and tastings. We have done both of these tours and really enjoyed them both. If you haven’t been to Mexico before, the sales tactics can be a bit aggressive, so I suggest reading the reviews below which have some strategies to help you navigate that situation as a sight impaired person.

Soak up the richness of the local culture as you enjoy the journey. So, Long Beach, you're wondering what to expect from Fun Italian Style™? If you choose to have them take your bags off the boat for you, then you will be required to retrieve them before heading through customs. They are usually well organized by floor number, but if you can’t see then there is little signage leading you to the area your bags are located. This is aperfect opportunity to ask for help but be patient because the crew are busy getting the ship unloaded and redied for the next group of passengers. Even though it is a hassle, I usually opt to keep my bags and shuttle them down myself when we are back in port. Wait times for elevators can be long and if you pack heavy dragging those bags down the stairs can be tough so decide appropriately.

I was disappointed that some of the better drinks were a premium upcharge so stuck to the ones that were included. This was the only bar we went to that had the upcharged drinks. The other bars gave you a menu and everything was included in the drinks package even spirit heavy drinks like old Fashioned and Sazarak. Each bar did offer food selections that were an upcharge, including some really great Poke’ nachos at the sports bar. After security, you will be directed to the Lido deck for a lunch buffet.

It is important to note that the "Sail and Sign Cards" are no longer handed during check-in. Guests are served a light, plant-based tropical breakfast with a fresh island fruit bowl, traditional muesli, homemade banana bread, herbal tea, and 100% Kona Coffee grown on the Fair Wind family farm. Fair Wind II Virtual Tour

The Ho’okele was a custom-designed, 55-foot trimaran. The Ho’okele began service in November of 1987 and took the place of the original Fair Wind as she was pulled from the ocean for a long dry dock. The Ho’okele carried out Fair Wind Cruises’ reputation of being the Big Island’s best snorkel tour. After a few years of hard work, Michael and Janet developed Fair Wind into a snorkeling business with adventurous snorkel excursions to Kealakekua Bay.

Location & Hours

The Fair Wind vessels can easily accommodate pregnant snorkelers with spacious stairs that let you easily get in and out of the water, as well as large on-board bathrooms. If you need instructions on how to snorkel, there will be a 5-10 minute snorkeling class with a crew member before you enter the water. Keauhou Bay is the departure point of all of our cruises. The bay is a special place where everyone near and far, with the webcam, can enjoy Hawaii Island’s Kona shores. Please revisit our webcam and share it with your friends whenever you need a peaceful Hawaii moment.

For more adventurous and experienced snorkelers, enjoy a two-stop South Kona cruise aboard the Hula Kai or join us for the famous manta ray night snorkel adventure. The morning cruise includes breakfast and lunch and gives you an extra 1-hour of snorkel time. Snorkel conditions are very similar, however, it is more likely to have clear skies in the morning. Afternoons in Kealakekua Bay are generally absent from other tour boat operators, proving a less crowded experience. The Fair Wind II is perfect for snorkeling, sightseeing, and enjoying the calm, cerulean blue waters of historic Kealakekua Bay, where the Captain Cook Monument is located. The boat has fun water activities including boogie boards with windows, custom view-boxes, and inner tubes.

The waters off the Kona Coast, from Keauhou to Kealakekua Bay, enjoy some of the calmest water conditions throughout the day in Hawai’i - protected from stronger easterly winds by Hualalai Mountain. We provide guidance, snorkel gear, flotation devices, and also have a high dive and two 15 foot water slides so that you can enjoy this fantastic site to its max for the afternoon!
